Dear Parents and Guardians, This week, we start our second week of staying and learning at home. It is said that it will be our most difficult – “a make it or break it”. We are also organizing to distribute electronic devices. Please let your teacher know if your child will need a device. At this time, I am unsure how many devices we will have to distribute. I will keep you informed as we receive more information.

COVID-19 Update #8

March 23, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Today, we received notification from Superintendent Austin Beutner that all schools in LAUSD will be closed through Friday, May 1st. The Superintendent committed to providing electronic devices to all students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Grades Kindergarten-2nd grade will receive an iPad and grades 3-5 will receive a chrome book. Additionally, the district made arrangements with Verizon to provide internet connectivity. At this time, O’Melveny Elementary does not have the devices. We expecting them in about a week or two. I will keep you updated to arrange a “grab and go” pick-up procedure.

In the meantime, please continue to communicate with your child’s teacher through email and the district’s online learning system, Schoology. If you have not connected to Schoology, please do so as soon as possible. See attachment for specific directions.

Please continue to keep you and your family safe by keeping social distance. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected] . Thank you and good evening!

COVID-19 Update #9

March 25, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians, Since all schools in the district will be closed through Friday, May 1st, O’Melveny Elementary will move towards online learning using Schoology as the main platform. As such, it is important that every parent register through the Parent Portal system. Please make sure to do so as soon as possible. If you need assistance such as the PIN number, please email your child’s teacher. All teacher emails are posted on the O’Melveny website at https://omelvenyes-lausd-ca.schoolloop.com/ as well as many other resources for distance learning and Schoology.

Many of you have expressed concerns about not having electronic devices. Our district Superintendent has committed to provide iPads for every K-2 student and a chrome book for each 3-5 student. Once we are in receipt of these devices, I will contact you through email and a telephone message to arrange a pick up. This will be done by grade level and it will be a “grab and go” drive up process to maintain social distance.

Please continue to keep you and your family safe by staying at home. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected] . Thank you and good evening!

Estimados Padres y Tutores:

COVID-19 Update #10
April 2, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,
This is Mr. Vidrio principal at O’Melveny Elementary School with some important messages. Today, we complete our third week of remote learning. I am so proud of all our teachers as they transitioned from traditional to online teaching. I am equally proud of our students and families whose lives have changed dramatically as most of us are working and learning from home. Please continue to stay strong and healthy.

During our Spring Recess and day off tomorrow to celebrate Cesar Chavez all LAUSD Grab and Go centers will remain open from 7-11 am. Beginning on Monday, April 6th the schedule will be from 8-11 am. The closest center continues to be San Fernando High School.

To continue with online learning for all students, it is important that all parents are registered on the Parent Portal and Schoology to access student assignments. Also, please visit our school website for instructional resources including teachers’ Weekly Schedule. Communicate consistently with your child’s teacher though email, Schoology or whatever system the teacher has in place. All students at O’Melveny will be provided with electronic devices. I am expecting delivery of these devices during Spring Recess or at the latest during the week of April 13th. Please be ready to receive an email from me to inform you of a specific date and time for pick up. We will distribute them in a Grab and Go process to comply with social distancing.

I believe in each and every one of you! You are strong, resilient and I know that we will all get through this together. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and keep yourself engaged with your family by playing games, reading, and of coarse watching your favorite movies. Have a wonderful Spring Recess! Thank you!
